Avalan Celeste was born in the Dazkar tribe on the Azim Steppe. Women in the Dazkar tribe primarily did the hunting and as such, Avalan learned how to wield a spear and an axe at a young age.

The Steppe was spared the damage caused by the 7th Umbral Calamity, but news of what unfolded managed to reach Avalan's horns. She became curious about the world outside of Othard and soon longed to explore. Her dreams were further inspired by her friend and adopted brother Daraxi, a Viera who left his own home to travel the world.

After seeing her friend's healing magic in action, Avalan took an interest in the arcane, learning basic conjuring skills and immersing herself in summoning magic, before leaving her home for a life of adventuring.

Once she felt ready, Avalan and Daraxi embarked on a long journey to Eorzea. Avalan arrived in Limsa Lominsa excited for her new future, though sad to part with Daraxi, who planned to journey to New Gridania to join the Conjurer's Guild.Avalan herself became enticed by the Arcanist guild where she could have a proper tutor to teach her about the magic she so adored.

After learning all she can from the Arcanist Guild, Avalan embarks on a few personal adventures, getting caught up in all sorts of shenanigans along the way.Sometime after she traverses Copperbell Mines, Avalan is contacted by Y'shtola, who had taken in interest in her power she calls "the Echo". Y'shtola tells her about the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and asks Avalan to meet with them.
